So for starters the whole track sounds very flat for some reason. The kick also doesn't feel like it working with anything. I like the upbeat swing type thing going on but I wish it was a lot clearer. The flat instruments kinda ruins the chaos nature of the song.

Overall it's not bad but I wish the instruments were a lot clearer.

True. along with the high frequency problem which someone mentioned... I might adjust it.

To start I kind of wish you set the scene of the track with maybe some crackling fire or perhaps some war cries or war horns. You have a lot of low frequencies come through at 1:13 that kind of messed with the emersion. You could have made an effect there of a far away horn which would've been cool. The song could've been expanded on as well with a much more intense climax.

Overall it's not bad but I really wish it expanded on some things as it has great potiential.

Gonna upload a reworked version later on this week probably!

Absolutely sick bro!

Warkauze responds:

Thank you!

I really like the surreal feeling to it but the first thing I have to say about is that I think the piano in the beginning so it sounds a bit bland and I think it would work better if it was quieter. I really think the song struggles with composition a bit and I think it's the piano. I really like the synth though. I think the main issue is that everything in the song sounds like it's raw. It doesn't seem like anything was done to the instruments so it does sound very bland. I also think your dynamics could have been better when the piano came in. For example when the beginning got to the piano, the spike in volume killed the emersion of that part imo. That and how raw it sounded. I would've recommended starting off with maybe chords and then going into the melody perhaps. That might stretch out the song though and extend the time it takes to get to the climax so I don't know about it but it would've been worth a shot. That brings me to my last issue. I feel like the pacing is just a bit off.

I do really like your transition into the end though. That was really smooth and like I said before, the feeling is definitely there. Overall not bad but I feel like some things could've been worked on. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the honest review. Duly noted but I like the way it came out. I'm not into technical audio stuff though. At least I know some people found it enjoyable. I'm not trying to be on the radio and production for the most part doesn't interest me, it feels like such a chore . Thanks

I feel like you could have extended on the intro just a tad bit. Like adding just a bit more feeling to it with a low thick 808 maybe. I also wish it louder as well.

Overall it's super good besides those 2 things. I say make is louder for expressing the song better and the 808 at the beginning isn't really an issue but it's more of a suggestion. It serves the same purpose as making it louder which is for expressing the song a bit better. Very well done!

Arponax responds:

Thanks i tend to play with projects even after i post them :D i will try that 808 sounds like cool idea, making it louder is not that easy :D since my mix is not that clean making the song louder makes it worse most of the time so im trying to find some compromise.

Im glad you like it.

I would say this has a lot of potential but it doesn't sound clean in terms of the mix. It doesn't sound balanced and the sounds aren't clear because they sound like they've been suppressed. I would also say there isn't much contrast in terms of dynamics overall so the song gets boring after some time. At 2:02 those notes don't really feel right at all and it's because they didn't really fit with the song. The last thing I have to say is I feel like the main issue is execution.

Overall it's not bad but there are still a lot of things to be worked on like mixing, dynamics and making it a lot clearer.

thank you very much for going in-depth with the feedback! I'm learning everything on my own (no doubt it shows) so comments like these really help out.

there are many areas I'm aware I didn't put a lot of effort on, partly because I didn't want to spend too much time on it. I did set out to leave this a not-too-interesting loop, but that makes it exactly that. as I make more stuff, I'll definitely put priority on making something dynamic.
also, I've heard of that effect where, as you keep mixing, you get so used to the track that you find it flat, so you start adding stuff and eventually you lose sight of the cohesion? probably what happened here. I'll be more careful next time.
I've yet to figure out how a mix can be defined as "clean", so it looks like that's another point to keep in mind as I practice and research more.

thank you again! ^ ^

This sounds epic bro! 🔥

Warkauze responds:

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!

The only 2 problems I find is that it's too quiet and the dynamics don't change that much so it can feel very repetitive. Besides that it's not bad!

rm120 responds:

Thanks.

Sounds like a cool song for a video game but one thing I have to say about is that I think you made 0:44 a bit too quiet. Also a few parts could be expanded on a bit more like 0:44 - 1:15. Not bad though.

guiltlesslmfao responds:

Thanks! Yeah I had a hard time deciding how long I wanted that bit to be, but I did end up expanding it more compared to the original length.

This is some pretty sick stuff. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with this style so I can't really go into to detail as to anything that's really wrong here besides the fact that the vocals have this weird frequency thing going on that I can't put my finger on but besides that it's pretty nice! Sick bro!

guyfromKillerRAT responds:

Not sure what it is about the vocals you are referring to (but then again, even you yourself aren't sure)...

As for not being familiar with this style of music, just check out bands like Foo Fighters, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, you will hear other bands of this type.
