This definitely more drum and bass rather than dubstep but this pretty nice I kind of dig it.

Edit: I would still honestly call this drum and bass because it's centered around the drums and it follows a typically drum and bass pattern.

CHEEZ2600 responds:

Admittedly, DJ Zinc once experimented with mixing a DnB production style with 2-step garage, thus breakstep. Breakstep helped create dubstep to a point back in the mid 2000's. Electronic music history is fun, isn't it?

REPLY TO EDIT: Fair enough I guess. I think the only dubstep thing about this track is the tempo: 140 bpm.

I hope you make music for games or shows because you are so underrated!

HollandAlbright responds:

Thank you! I'm working on a game now and I really want to get into animated films/shows. That means a lot, thank you again.

I'm not much a techno guy, but here are my thoughts on the song. It's pretty repetitive in my honest opinion. Also the mix sounds very unbalanced and it seems like everything was just shot up for loudness based on the waveform. I don't really know what to recommend composition wise except for at looking high quality techno songs for inspiration.

Casporb responds:

OK! Thanks!

I really like the premise of this song! I think it sounds beautiful, however, there are things I want to mention regarding the execution. Some more subjective than others. Firstly, I wish the violin in the first part was a bit further back in the mix. Not the biggest fan of how the distorted guitar came into the song. I believe it would've sounded better as a solo later on in the song. I also recommend perhaps removing a bit more of the muddy frequencies from the piano and perhaps consider a compressor. The song really takes a long time to go anywhere in my opinion. The voicings on the violins sound a bit off at 2:22 so I recommend looking into changing/playing around with those a bit more. I would recommend a more suspenseful build to 1:49 and also to have a more varied set of instruments. Some brass would be pretty nice and something voicing a bass.

I overall feel like there just could've been more going on with this song, but it still sounds nice!

Jabicho responds:

Hi man! thank you so much for the compliments, and for the mixing advices, it's something very helpful for me, and I'll work on it for new songs :D
Also thanks for taking the time to listen, it means a lot!

Amazing piece! The crunchy texture of the brass is really nice and I love the contrast in parts as well as the transitions!

HollandAlbright responds:

Thank you!

Always glad to see a new piece from you! I suggest maybe making the change to forte a bit sharper. I really wanted to hear forte sprung out more and decrescendo on the violins starting at 0:07. Other than that, really lovely piece as always!

HollandAlbright responds:

Thank you! I appreciate it!

I really enjoy your pieces! I hope you get taken to great heights!

HollandAlbright responds:

That means so much to read! Thank you very much!

How did this not get more attention!? This is wonderfully written and some parts remind me of Piotr Musial. Very well done!

HollandAlbright responds:

I appreciate that, thank you so much!

Composition wise it starts to get repetitive. I feel like that just may be the approach to the song which isn't really a technical error but in my opinion makes the song a bit uninteresting after a certain point. I mean that respectfully. The transition at 1:00 felt a bit awkward. It would be really good for a game. It reminds me of a song from a FNAF mini-game. Overall not bad!

burningmagma responds:

Thanks for the constructive criticism! I promise I will add more variety to my songs in the future :^)

One thing I think you could work on with this piece is the panning. More things could be panned further in my opinion. The instrument that starts at 3:42 sticks out a bit too much. 2:12 - 2:41 could've been louder. The orchestration and composition are really nice! Very well done!

HoboKa responds:

Thx for the feedback and for scoring :3
